How to create a folder without a name in Windows?

Press Ctrl+Shift+N (or right click and create a new folder) on an empty area. Name it by holding Alt key and from the numeric keypad, press 255 and then press enter. Check for Num Lock 'ON' if not working.

Actually, the folder or file still has a name but it's a non-printable character so it looks like it has no name. Its name is still the special Alt+255 character which is invisible..

You can do it also in XP. Create a new folder by using the right mouse button and give it the Alt+255 name.

What happens is when we press Alt+(any number upto 256) the system allocates the character corresponding to that ASCII value you've provided with Alt key.
